Picking our favourite restaurant bloggers across Australia is no easy task, as there are plenty to choose from and good food can be a subjective thing.
Melbourne newspaper The Age reported that there were 659 food and drink blogs in Australia in 2010, with that number growing at a rapid rate, especially in Sydney and Melbourne.
So it should come as no surprise that not every notable blog made our list -- especially in the states with higher populations -- but you can be assured that the ones which did make the cut are well worth your attention.
Here we go!
Simon Food Favourites
This is one prolific website, hence it's #1 ranking on UrbanSpoon's NSW Blog Leaderboard. Fortunately, Simon Food Favourites is much more than just one review after another, with the author, Simon Leong, going into plenty of detail in his updates, especially in a visual sense. Great pictures and Google Maps of where Simon has eaten makes this blog one of my overall favourites.
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
We're not going to answer that question, but Does My Bomb Look Big In This certainly answers plenty of questions about Sydney's food scene. Heck, DMBLBIT even provides the reader with its own "to do" list so that you know what is coming up. "Saving the world, one meal at a time" the site proclaims -- an appropriate tagline for this dedicated blog.
Eat Drink Play
A clever name and concept, Eat Drink Play follows a group of fun lovers around Sydney's eastern suburbs, as they hop from restaurants to bars and much more. The site is a little busy but still looks pretty darn sleek, and the content deserves your attention.
The Unbearable Lightness of Being Hungry
This is a terrific site for Sydney's food enthusiasts, as the author has done plenty of research and clearly knows her stuff. Even the Sydney Morning Herald's Good Food Guide merits a review -- that's detail, folks!
Jenius
We can't leave New South Wales without mentioning this Gen Y food lover's blog. The pics are enough to catch the eye, but we're really impressed by how much food this young blogger can order in one night out! It certainly helps when it seems like half of the menu is included in the review!
Other Notable Blogs: Grab Your Fork (the review of Tehran made my stomach rumble!) and Pigged-Out.
Melbourne Gastronome
"The musings of a 30 year old Melbourne foodie gal", this site proclaims and delivers. A nice, clean display makes for easy navigation, and our "foodie gal" certainly loves her food and drink. The cocktail reviews and restaurant reports are overwhelmingly positive, but with Melbourne's reputation for top quality entertainment areas, that's not a huge surprise.
Addictive & Consuming
Jeroxie is Addictive & Consuming. Cool tag line, great layout, fresh approach -- oh, and some darn good food appraisal to boot. That's a pretty bloody good start for a food blog. The quality of the images makes this look like a photography website and the writing is top notch (Jeroxie is a project manager at a digital brand agency outside of the blogosphere). An excellent site for those heading to Melbourne.
I Eat Therefore I Am
A blog whose name says it all. With a focus on the delights of Melbourne's Asian restaurants, IETIA also provides recipes for those who are inclined to spend their spare time in the kitchen. What did I like especially? How about this line - "I was sold when I heard the words "half price". I mean, how could any self respecting Asian not be lured by those words." That's my kind of blogger...
Melbourne Dining Experiences
Well, it is what it says it is. The site has a nice, clean layout, making it easy on the eye. The photos are clear, the commentary is concise and the detail is excellent. A winner for those who are fans of minimalist-style blogs which let the food do the talking. Nice!
Eat And Be Merry, For Tomorrow We Die(t)
With its clever name drawing me in, this blog is jam-packed with reviews and updates coming through at a rapid rate of knots. This is, of course, a good thing. The rating system looks fair, the pictures are clear and the writing is snappy - I'm sold!
Other Notable Blogs: eat, drink, stagger, Almost Always Ravenous and (for all you vegetarians out there) Nouveau Potato.
EatingWA
EatingWA has plenty more to offer than Quinten Lynch's take on sushi in Northbridge (although it should be noted that the big Eagle made a reasonable fist of the job). The website is chock-full of good information, easily navigable, well presented and updated regularly. The site also encourages you to share your own reviews and offers discounts for its members, which is a nice bonus.
The Food Pornographer
It's hard to ignore a blog with a title like The Food Pornographer, so we won't. It's full bottle on all things WA food, including restaurant reviews and produce vendors. Unfortunately, TFP doesn't like olives, but we can live with that.
Perth Food Reviews
Shaun comes from a family that loves its food, which is reflected in his blog, Perth Food Reviews. With regular updates, the site breaks down its restaurant reviews into five categories: verdict, price, taste, value and recommendation. You can't ask for much more than that.
Perth Food Engineers
Purely a restaurant review site, Perth Food Engineers is a good introduction to the world of Perth eateries. The site has plenty of up-close-and-personal photos of the food and restaurants being reviewed, which is always helpful. Well worth a look.
Poached
Everyone eats breakfast (or at least everyone should eat breakfast!) although it seems like the couple behind Poached are some of the more serious fans of the first (and best!) meal of the day. This site's simple Wordpress layout gives you easy access to the latest reviews and the retro photos are a nice touch.
D Bites
This site doesn't pull its punches, giving one Japanese restaurant a score of 4/20. D Bites tells it like it is, so if you appreciate that kind of thing, this is the place for you.
MEGalomaniac
MEGalomaniac founder, Meagan, has an upbringing that straddles both western and eastern cultures, and it shows in her taste buds. What's more, she clearly loves her cuisine -- "for there truly is no sincerer love than the love of food"... I couldn't have said it better myself!
The Foodologist
This is more than a restaurant review site. The Foodologist is a committed South Australian who is fond of promoting his state's produce. Foodologist isn't a misnomer either; this blogger has a PhD in Physiology and a Masters in Gastronomy -- top that! Oh yeah, the restaurant reviews are excellent too...
Eating Adelaide
Ten points for guessing what Eating Adelaide is all about! Restaurant and bar reviews as well as plenty of recipe ideas, this site has the SA capital covered. It's layout is pretty straightforward but also user-friendly, so if you're heading to the City of Churches, check out this site before you go for a feed.
Vegetarian Faerie In The Kitchen
One for our vegetarian friends over in South Australia. Faerie gives plenty of information about where one can go for a good feed in the city, and, through her boyfriend, even gives meat a bit of airtime. It's not my absolute favourite, but I think that's because I adore meat!
Eat, Drink and be Kerry
Nice title, and the fact that it's put together by a freelance writer certainly helps the cause -- no surprises that it reads well and is nicely presented! With contributions from outside of Queensland too, this is a well-rounded blog that is worth a look.
Eating Brisbane
As you can tell from its stylish design and aesthetic sensibilities, this website is a professional little operation. Ambitious too -- with the goal of "Eating my way around Brisbane" and a countdown on the homepage, to keep track of progress thus far (93/282 as at the date of this article). Updates seem to come through sporadically, but when they do the author focuses on the things that matter -- food, atmosphere and service.
New Brisbane
The New Brisbane site is a guide to nightlife in the river city, with a bunch of independent contributors providing their two cents worth. Their basic layout could do with an upgrade, but we prefer quality content to bells'n'whistles, so give this a look.
BNE: Hot Or Not
This is the self-proclaimed "decisive guide to Brisbane", and has a lot more than just restaurant reviews on the site. The home page itself is a little busy, but once you get your bearings it's easy to see how much information is packed into the one destination.
Brisbane Devoured
Admittedly the layout is old school and the website could do with a fresh lick of paint, but the reviews are plentiful and the couple behind Brisbane Devoured are clearly passionate about their food.
Rita's Bite
Incorporating Rita's Bite and its predecessor Hobart Food For Thought, this website provides a great entree into the Apple Isle's food and drink scene, with reviews on a plethora of Tasmanian restaurants. Rita also manages to incorporate some social commentary onto her site, which is a welcome addition.
The Canberra Cook
Restaurant reviews, recipes and much more, The Canberra Cook is a site for those living in our nation's capital, not just eating there. It's not exactly the Ritz-Carlton of food blogs, but a solid introduction to the ACT nonetheless.
Darwin Food
A snapshot of Darwin's dining and nightlife scene, Darwin Food is not as extensive in its individual reviews as we'd like to see, but it does cover plenty of restaurants and hotspots while also giving a good indication of price. A strong starting point for those headed north.

South Australia shares borders with all of the mainland states and the Northern Territory. It is bordered to the west by Western Australia, to the north by the Northern Territory, to the north-east by Queensland, to the east by New South Wales. Thanks.

Hi Crispin
I appreciate the inclusion as one of the food blogs to check out in WA. I do like my food and like commenting on it. Given i've been going since Oct 2010, to grab your attention and be listed in the top 5 must mean I'm making quite an impression.
Cheers

Nice list! Miss Feather's adventures in Sydney is also a pretty good read for the NSW section
http://missfeathers.com.au
The selection for New South Wales is good. But I think you've overlooked a major player: missfeathers.com.au I love it! Great pinpointer maps linked to reviews, fresh looking website updated regularly with interesting foodie reviews and more. You should check it out! Eat Drink Play is also great - I've been to one of their events before and it was great.
Thanks for the inclusion Crispin.
